Flatiron Building
With its distinctive wedge shape, the Flatiron building, built in 1902, is one of the oldest and most famous skyscrapers in the world. According to legend, the winds generated by its odd shape used to cause young men to lounge around its base in the hopes of catching sight of a shapely ankle. Policemen, spotting these young men, would tell them to "23 Skiddoo!", which is where that expression originates.
