St. Bartholomew's Church
St. Bartholomews was founded in the Bowery in 1835, but moved to its present location in 1918. During the 1980s, this Episcopal Church faced extinction when a real estate developer wanted to build an office tower on this location. But after an 11 year court battle, the Supreme Court upheld the New York State landmarks law.
